How do I add a tag to a client?

Create and assign client tags from the Tag Manager on the Clients page so you can filter and segment your client list.

To tag a client, open the Tag Manager from your Clients page, create the tag there, and assign it to the clients you want. Tags are managed centrally in the Tag Manager — there is no tag field on the individual client's profile.

Create a tag and assign it to a client

  1. Click Clients in the left sidebar to open the full client list.
  2. Click the Tag Manager button in the top right of the page.
  3. In the Tag Manager modal, type a name into the Tag name field on the left.
  4. Click Add tag. The new tag appears in the tag list below the field.
  5. Click the tag to open its Tag Settings on the right.
  6. Under Assigned Clients, click the + button.
  7. In the Add clients to tag modal, check the clients you want to tag and click Add clients.
  8. Click Save changes at the bottom of the Tag Manager. You'll see "Tags updated successfully."

Tag name rules

  • Tags can only contain letters, numbers, and spaces. Hyphens, underscores, and other special characters are not allowed.
  • Tags must be 25 characters or fewer.
  • Tag names must be unique — you cannot create two tags with the same name.

If a name fails any of these checks, you'll see an inline error and the tag won't be saved.

Filter the client list by tag

  1. On the Clients page, click Filters above the client table.
  2. In the filter panel, scroll to the Tags section.
  3. Click any tag to filter the list to clients with that tag. The Filters button shows a count badge while the filter is active.

See which tags a client has

The client list has a Tags column showing the tags assigned to each client. The column is to the right of Category — scroll the table horizontally if you don't see it.

Remove a client from a tag

  1. Open the Tag Manager.
  2. Click the tag in the list to open its Tag Settings.
  3. Under Assigned Clients, click the button next to the client you want to remove.
  4. Click Save changes.

Delete a tag entirely

  1. Open the Tag Manager.
  2. Click the × on the tag in the tag list.
  3. Click Save changes. The tag is removed from every client it was assigned to.

Things to watch out for

  • Tags are managed only in the Tag Manager. There is no tag field on a client's individual profile — adding, editing, and removing tags all happens in the modal.
  • Closing the Tag Manager without clicking Save changes discards every change you made in that session, including new tags and new client assignments.
  • Tags appear as plain text. There is no color picker or emoji support.
  • Deleting a tag removes it from every client at once. To unassign just one client, use the button in Tag Settings instead of deleting the tag.
  • Automations do not support tag-based triggers or audiences. You cannot target a whole tag group from the automation flow.
  • Broadcasts let you filter the recipient picker by tag, but you still need to select the clients manually within that filtered list — there is no "send to all clients with this tag" shortcut.
