How do I turn messaging on or off for a client?

Use Feature Control to hide chat from a client's app, and control whether form reviews post a message into their conversation.

Messaging is one of ten features you can switch on or off per client. Turning it off hides chat in that client's app and stops the automatic messages Fitsly would otherwise post into their conversation. All ten features are on by default.

Turn messaging off for a client

  1. Open the client's profile and go to SettingsFeature Control.
  2. Switch off Messaging.
  3. Changes save automatically — the header shows "Saving…" then "All changes saved".

Nothing is deleted. Turning Messaging back on restores everything the client had before.

What switching messaging off does

EffectDetail
Chat in the client appHidden — its tabs, cards, and buttons disappear
Form review messagesSkipped entirely for that client
Workout comment messagesSkipped entirely for that client
Existing conversationsKept, not deleted

The change reaches the client's app on its next account refresh — every 14 minutes while the app is open, or when they reopen it — rather than instantly on their screen.

Turn form review messages on or off for one client

Separately from the feature switch, you can control whether reviewing a form posts a message into a client's direct message.

  1. Open the direct message with that client on the web dashboard.
  2. In the Recent activity panel beside the conversation, find Enable form review messages.
  3. Toggle it off.

The setting is on by default. With it on, the client gets a message in that conversation whenever you review a form submission of theirs. With it off, form reviews send no chat message — everything else in the conversation works normally.

The automatic messages this affects

  • Form review messages — reviewing a form submission posts a message referencing the review into your direct message with that client. Requires both Messaging and Enable form review messages to be on.
  • Workout comments — commenting on a client's workout delivers the comment into the direct message with the workout attached. Requires Messaging to be on. There's no separate toggle for this one.

Things to watch out for

  • A feature is only ever hidden when you explicitly switch it off. Anything you've never touched counts as on.
  • Switching Messaging off is not the same as archiving a conversation. Archiving only hides a direct message from your own inbox; the client's chat is unaffected.
  • Clients whose account is archived keep read access to their conversations but can't send, reply, or react — that's separate from the Messaging switch.
