Clients never join or leave a community on their own — you add and remove them from inside the community on the web dashboard.
Add clients to a community
- Open the community. In the hero at the top, click the + button. If the community has no members yet, you'll see an Add members button instead.
- Pick the clients from the picker. Clients already in the community don't appear.
- Confirm.
Each added client gets an "added you to" notification, sees the community in the client app, and is added to the community's group chat automatically. A system message in the chat notes who was added.
Remove clients from a community
- Open the community and click the − button in the hero. It appears once the community has members.
- Pick the clients to remove and confirm.
Removed clients lose access to the feed and are removed from the group chat, with a system message noting the change. Everything they contributed — threads, comments, reactions, and poll votes — stays in the community for everyone else.
Removing a member doesn't notify them. If they open the community afterwards it no longer loads, and it drops out of their communities list the next time it refreshes.
Community members vs. group chat members
| Change you make | Effect on the community | Effect on the group chat |
|---|---|---|
| Add or remove community members | Membership updates | Membership updates to match, with a system message |
| Add or remove chat members in Messages | No change | Membership updates |
The sync runs one way only. Editing the chat's member list in Messages doesn't add or remove anyone from the community itself, and the Messages screen warns you about this. To keep the feed and the chat in step, always manage members from the community.
Working in a team workspace
Communities belong to the head coach's account. Team members work on the head coach's communities, and when managing members they can only add or remove clients assigned to them.
Things to watch out for
- A client can only see a community they're a member of. If they can't find Communities in the client app, they may not have been added to one yet, may have the Community feature switched off, or may have an archived account.
- Archived clients keep read access to communities they belong to, but the client app puts them in read-only mode — no posting, commenting, reacting, voting, or nickname changes.
- Deleting a community removes the feed for every member but leaves the group chat in place with the same members.
