How do I reply, edit, delete, and react to messages?

Reply to a specific message, edit or delete your own, and add emoji reactions from the web dashboard or the coach app.

Every message in a conversation has the same four actions behind it. On the web dashboard you hover a message to reach them; in the coach mobile app you swipe or long-press.

Reply to a specific message

Hover the message and choose Reply on the web, or swipe the message in the coach app. Your reply carries a short preview of the original, trimmed to the first 100 characters.

Replies are text messages, and you can only reply to a message in the same conversation.

Edit a message you sent

Hover the message, open its menu, and choose Edit message on the web — Esc cancels. In the coach app, long-press the message and choose Edit.

You can only edit messages you sent yourself, and only text messages. Photos, videos, voice notes, and GIFs can't be edited — delete and resend instead.

Once edited, an edited label appears on the message for everyone: "edited" on the web, "Edited" in the apps.

Delete a message you sent

Hover the message, open its menu, and choose Delete message on the web. In the coach app, long-press and choose Delete.

You can only delete your own messages, and it can't be undone. Everyone in the conversation immediately sees "This message has been deleted" in its place.

React to a message with an emoji

Hover the message and use the reaction button on the web, or long-press it in the coach app. Pick one of the quick reactions — ❤️ 😂 😮 😢 😡 👍 — or open the full emoji picker.

You get one reaction per message. Choosing a different emoji replaces yours; choosing the same emoji again removes it.

The message's author gets a push notification: "Liked your message" for heart emojis — ❤️ and other heart variants — and "Reacted [emoji] to your message" for anything else.

What each action does at a glance

ActionWhose messagesReversibleWhat others see
ReplyAnyone's, same conversationn/aYour reply with a 100-character preview of the original
EditYour own text messages onlyEdit againAn edited label; the previous version isn't kept
DeleteYour own onlyNo"This message has been deleted"
ReactAnyone'sYesYour emoji on the message; the author is notified

Things to watch out for

  • Deleting can't be undone, and there's no way to recover the original text.
  • Editing a message doesn't hide that it was edited — the label is shown to everyone in the conversation.
  • Reactions to messages notify the author, so they're not a silent acknowledgement.
  • A client whose account is archived can read the conversation but can't reply, edit, delete, or react.
