How do I view the Fitsly app from my client's perspective?

Create a test client account using a different email (a Gmail +alias works), download the Fitsly client app on your phone, and sign in as them.

To see what your clients see, you create a dedicated test-client account on your own coach account, install the Fitsly client mobile app on your phone, and sign in with the test client's credentials. Fitsly does not have an in-app "view as client" toggle, so this is the only supported way to preview the client experience.

Steps

  1. Sign in to app.fitsly.com on a desktop browser as your coach account.
  2. Click Clients in the left navigation, then click Add new client.
  3. Fill in the test client details:
    • Email: use a different email from your coach login. The simplest trick is a Gmail +alias — for example, if your coach email is you@gmail.com, use you+test@gmail.com. Gmail still delivers to your inbox but Fitsly treats it as a separate account.
    • First name / Last name: anything obvious like "Test Client" so it's easy to spot in your Clients list.
  4. Save the client and send the invite email to that +alias address.
  5. Open the invite email in your inbox. Click the activation link to set a password for the test client account.
  6. On your phone, install the Fitsly client mobile app from the App Store or Google Play. (The "Get the apps" modal in your coach account, under your profile menu, has direct links — see "Finding the download links" below.)
  7. Open the Fitsly client app and sign in using the +alias email and the password you set in step 5.
  8. You're now seeing the app exactly as one of your real clients would. Assign yourself a program, meal plan, automation, vault item, or anything else from your coach account on desktop, then refresh the client app to see how it appears on the client side.

In your coach account, the Get the apps modal lists both apps with App Store and Google Play buttons:

  • Section For coaches — the Fitsly Coach app, which you've already installed.
  • Section For clients — the Fitsly app (no "Coach" suffix). This is the one you want for previewing the client experience.

The two apps are separate listings — they look similar in the store, so double-check you're installing the client one (it's the one without "Coach" in the name).

Use the same test client for everything

Once your test client is set up, keep using it for all future previews. There's no benefit to creating a new test client each time, and it counts against your client limit if you do. Treat it as a permanent fixture on your account.

If you have a sub-coach team and want to verify what a sub-coach sees, that's a different flow — sub-coaches sign in to the coach app (not the client app), so create a sub-coach team member instead.

Things to watch out for

  • You cannot use your own coach email as a client email. Fitsly only allows one Fitsly account per email address, so trying to invite yourself as a client with your coach email will trigger an "Email address already exists" error. The +alias trick is the workaround. (See the "How do I add a client and Fitsly says 'email already exists'" article for more.)
  • The coach mobile app and the client mobile app are different apps. Signing in to the coach app with the test client's credentials won't work — you need the dedicated Fitsly client app. The two listings look similar; check the name.
  • There's no impersonate-a-real-client feature. You're previewing the client side via your own test client, not stepping into a specific real client's account. If you want to debug what a particular client is seeing, ask them to share a screenshot or screen-share — there's no way for you to log in as them.
  • The client app is mobile only. There is no client web app today, so you'll need a phone or a phone simulator to view the client experience.
  • The +alias version of the email is the one you'll use to log in to the client app. If you set the test client up as you+test@gmail.com, you log in to the client app with you+test@gmail.com (not the plain version).
