How do I message my coach?

Open chat in the client app, send text, photos, video, voice, and GIFs, and pick the right coach when you have several.

Verified Sep 12, 2026Client app

Chat lives behind the messages icon at the top of your home screen. Its badge shows your total unread messages. If your coach has turned messaging off for you, the icon is hidden — it only comes back while a reply from your coach is still unread — and the message buttons on workout screens are hidden too.

Your coach creates and manages group chats. You can send, reply, react, and set a nickname, but you can't create groups, add members, or change group settings.

Open your conversations

Tap the messages icon to open the Chats screen. Conversations are listed most recent first, your head coach's conversation carries a Coach pill and a presence dot, and each row shows its own unread count.

Filter chips above the list show All, plus Unread when you have unread messages, plus Direct and Groups when you're in a group chat. They only appear when you have more than one conversation and at least one group chat or unread conversation.

If you haven't messaged anyone yet, a Message [your coach's first name] button starts a direct conversation with your head coach.

Send a message

  1. Open a conversation and type in the Message… field.
  2. Tap send. Your coach gets a push notification with the text.

Reply, react, edit, and delete messages

  • Reply — swipe a message. Your reply shows the sender's name and a preview of the original.
  • React — double-tap for a quick ❤️, or long-press for ❤️ 😂 😮 😢 😡 👍 and a full emoji picker. One reaction per message: a different emoji replaces yours, the same one removes it. Tap a reaction bubble to see who reacted.
  • Edit — long-press your own text message and choose Edit. Text messages only, up to 5,000 characters. An "Edited" label appears.
  • Delete — long-press your own message, choose Delete, and confirm. This can't be undone; everyone sees "This message has been deleted" in its place.

Tap a photo to open it in the full-screen Chat photos viewer.

Message a coach about a specific workout

  1. Tap a message button on a workout surface — the Your coach card, under workout comments, or in the workout player.
  2. If only one coach works with you, the chat opens straight away with the workout attached.
  3. If more than one coach works with you, a Message a coach sheet appears. The coach connected to what you're looking at is suggested under Recommended; the rest are listed alphabetically under Other coaches, with your head coach labelled Head coach.

The meal-plan tab's coach chip and the Chats empty state always open the chat with your head coach, whoever created the plan.

Use a group chat

Tap the group header to see the group name, member count, and a roster grouped Me / Coaches / Members.

  • Set a nickname — tap the pencil next to your own row and enter up to 50 characters, or clear it to go back to your real name. The nickname replaces your name in that conversation and in your coach's inbox.
  • Leave the group — choose Leave Conversation and confirm. A system message notes that you left, and your past messages stay visible.

Messages your coach sends as a broadcast carry an Announcement badge.

Things to watch out for

Chat can be read-only. "Your coach has locked this conversation." means member messaging is off in that group. "Your account has been archived. You can still read messages." means reacting and nickname editing are disabled too.

A dropped connection shows in the header as Reconnecting… or Disconnected. Messages refresh when you return to the conversation or bring the app back to the foreground.

Quick answers

Can my coach see whether I've read a message?

No. There are no read receipts in either direction. Opening a conversation clears its unread count on your side only.
