How do I create a recipe in Fitsly?

Three ways to create a recipe: copy from the recipe database, generate with AI, or build from scratch.

You can create a recipe in three ways from the Recipes page in the sidebar: copy one of Fitsly's curated database recipes, generate one with AI, or start a new recipe from scratch. The fastest options for coaching are copying from the database or generating with AI.

Open the Recipes page

  1. Click Recipes in the sidebar to open the recipe database.
  2. The page has two tabs: Recipe database (Fitsly's curated recipes) and Custom recipes (your own recipes).

Option 1: Copy a recipe from the database

The recipe database is a library of curated recipes you can copy into your custom recipes and edit.

  1. Stay on the Recipe database tab.
  2. Use the search box to find a recipe by name, or browse the list.
  3. Click a recipe to open its details and review the macros, ingredients, and instructions.
  4. Click Copy to Custom Recipes.
  5. The recipe is now saved as a custom recipe and you can edit it freely.

Option 2: Generate a recipe with AI

  1. On the Recipes page, click Generate Recipe (top right).
  2. In the Recipe Description field, describe the recipe you want.
  3. Optionally, fill in Dietary Requirements to add restrictions or preferences.
  4. Click Generate Recipe.
  5. Review the generated name, description, foods, macros, and instructions in the right panel.
  6. When you're happy with it, click Save Recipe.
  7. The recipe is saved as a custom recipe and you can edit it further.

Option 3: Create a recipe from scratch

  1. On the Recipes page, click New recipe (top right).
  2. Enter a Recipe name (required).
  3. Optionally, add a description and a cover image.
  4. Click Create Recipe.
  5. You're taken into the recipe editor to fill in the rest.

Edit your custom recipe

After creating a recipe by any of the three methods, you can edit:

  • Name and description
  • Foods (which automatically calculates the macros and micros)
  • Cooking time
  • Serving size
  • Instructions
  • Cover image
  • Recipe notes
  • Related recipes

A live phone preview on the right side of the editor shows what the recipe will look like in the Fitsly client app.

Related recipes are recipes that show up as alternatives when a client opens this recipe from a vault collection. They give clients other options if they want something different.

Share a recipe with clients

Once a recipe is saved as a custom recipe, you can add it to a vault collection to share it with clients, or include it in a meal plan you assign to a client.

Things to watch out for

  • AI-generated recipes can have inaccurate nutrition info. Review the macros and ingredients before saving or assigning to clients.
  • A recipe name is required to save.
  • Generated recipes are not saved automatically. If you close the modal before clicking Save Recipe, the generated recipe is lost.
  • Clients can't currently share recipes back to the community or with other clients. Recipes flow from coach to client only.
  • In a team workspace, custom recipes are saved at the team (head coach) level, so all coaches in the workspace can see and use them.
