By default, clients can't browse Fitsly's pre-loaded recipe library or your custom recipes — there's no global recipe page in the client app. To give a client free access to recipes outside of an assigned meal plan, create a Recipe collection in your Vault, add the recipes you want, and assign the client to that collection. Once added, the recipes show up in the client's Vault tab, and they can open and log them at any time.
Default visibility
Pre-loaded recipes from Fitsly's database and any custom recipes you've built sit in Nutrition → Recipes on your dashboard, which is coach-only. Clients can't see this list. The only way for a client to see a recipe is for you to either:
- Add it to an assigned meal plan — the client sees the recipe inside that meal plan only.
- Add it to a Vault recipe collection and assign the client to the collection — the client can browse and log it freely from their Vault.
Use the vault path when you want a recipe to be available on demand. Use the meal plan path when you want it to be part of a structured weekly intake.
Build a recipe collection in your Vault
- In the left sidebar, open Vault and click Add new collection.
- In the Add new collection modal, click the Recipes option (chef hat icon) under Collection type.
- Enter a Collection name (required) and an optional Description.
- Add a cover photo if you want one.
- Click Create Collection.
- In the collection editor, use the recipe picker to add recipes. Both Fitsly's pre-loaded recipes and your own custom recipes are available — pick whichever you want to share.
- Save the collection.
Add clients to the collection
Inside the collection editor, use the assign-clients control to add the clients who should see this collection. Only clients you add can see and log from it. To grant access to a new client later, open the collection and add them.
What clients see
Once a client has been added to a recipe collection:
- The client opens the Vault tab in their app.
- They tap into the recipe collection. The recipes show as cards.
- Tapping a card opens the recipe page with the macros, ingredients, instructions, and a log button.
- They can log a recipe straight to a meal on the selected day in their food log without recreating it.
If the same client also has an assigned meal plan, recipes inside that plan still appear under the Meal Plan sub-tab on their Nutrition page — those two surfaces are separate.
Searching, filtering, and favouriting
- Inside a collection, recipes are listed in the order you set in the collection editor. There's no per-recipe favouriting from the client's vault view.
- Inside the food log search, when the client logs a food they can save it to Saved by tapping the heart icon. Recipes the client has logged in the past also surface in the My Meals tab of the food selector for quick re-logging. So while there's no recipe-specific favourites list, anything they've logged once is reachable again from the Saved or My Meals tabs.
Sharing recipes with the community
Clients can't share recipes with each other in the community right now. The community functionality for recipe sharing is on the roadmap but isn't live yet. If two of your clients should both have access to the same recipe, add them both to the same vault recipe collection.
Things to watch out for
- There is no "publish all recipes to all clients" toggle. Each recipe collection has to have its clients added explicitly.
- The collection's Collection type is locked once created. Pick Recipes at creation — you can't switch a Resources collection into a Recipes one later.
- Clients only see collections they've been added to. Removing a client from the collection removes their access immediately.
- Adding a recipe to a meal plan does not also add it to the client's vault. The two paths are independent.
- Pre-loaded recipes added to a vault collection share the same data with the source recipe. If Fitsly updates the source recipe, your collection reflects the update; if you want a frozen copy you can edit, duplicate the recipe to your custom recipes first and add the duplicate.
- There's no client-side recipe favouriting today. Clients reach previously logged recipes through the Saved or My Meals tabs of the food log search.
