How do I set macro and calorie goals for a client?

Set a client's daily calorie and macro targets from the Macro Targets view inside their Nutrition tab.

To set macro and calorie goals for a client, open their profile, go to the Nutrition tab, and select Macro Targets.

Steps

  1. Open the client's profile from your client list.
  2. Select the Nutrition tab.
  3. Click the Macro Targets pill at the top of the Nutrition tab.
  4. Enter values for Calories, Protein, Carbs, and Fats.
  5. Toggle each macro you want to track from Disabled to Enabled. Entering a number does not enable the macro on its own — you have to flip the toggle.
  6. Set a Variance percentage to allow flexibility around the target (for example, a target of 2000 calories with a 10% variance counts anywhere between 1800 and 2200 calories as on-target).
  7. Click Save changes.

Choosing grams vs. percentage

For Protein, Carbs, and Fats you can switch the input between two formats using the dropdown next to the value:

  • Grams — set the macro target as a fixed gram amount.
  • Percent of <calories> kcals — set the macro as a percentage of the calorie target. The grams equivalent is shown next to the macro name.

Calories are always entered as a fixed amount.

When calories are auto-calculated

If Protein, Carbs, and Fats are all enabled and all three are set in Grams, the calorie field becomes read-only and is calculated automatically from the macro grams (4 kcal per gram of protein and carbs, 9 kcal per gram of fat). Switch any of those macros to Percent or disable one to edit calories directly again.

Setting different goals on specific days (overrides)

Use overrides to change the goal on selected days without touching the default targets.

  1. On the Macro Targets view, click Create override.
  2. In the Create macro override modal, select one or more dates on the calendar.
  3. Enter the calorie and macro values for those days, toggle the macros you want enabled, and set a variance.
  4. Click Create.

Overrides take priority over the default macro targets on the days they apply. To remove an override, click the trash icon on its card in the Macro Targets view.

Things to watch out for

  • Entering a number for a macro does not enable it. Each macro has its own Enabled / Disabled toggle that has to be turned on for the target to apply.
  • If all of Protein, Carbs, and Fats are enabled in Grams, the Calories field is locked and computed from the macro totals — switch one to Percent or disable one to edit calories manually.
  • Variance must be between 0 and 100.
  • Override dates can only be set for today and future days, not past days.
  • Overrides override the defaults for any day they cover, so on those days the override values are what count toward the goal.
