How do I use sections to structure a workout?

Add and manage sections in the workout builder to group exercises into warm-up, main work, cooldown, and recovery blocks.

Sections let you split a workout into named blocks (for example warm-up, main work, cooldown). You add a section from the workout builder, choose its type and format, then drop exercises into it.

Add a section

  1. Open or create a workout in the builder.
  2. Click the + icon next to the Sections counter in the header bar. You can also click + Add section at the bottom of any existing section.
  3. In the Add section modal, stay on the New section tab.
  4. Enter a Section name (optional).
  5. Pick a Section type: Workout, Warm up, Cool down, or Recovery. The type is a label that helps you organize the workout.
  6. Pick a Section format by clicking Select on one of the two cards:
    • Regular — exercises use Set / Reps / Rest. Best for traditional strength work.
    • Interval — exercises use Set / Time / Rest, and the section header shows a running Duration that adds up Time + Rest across all exercises. Best for HIIT, Tabata, or circuits.
  7. Click Create section. A toast confirms the section was added to the bottom of the workout.

Reuse a saved section from your library

  1. Open the Add section modal.
  2. Switch to the From library tab.
  3. Search your saved sections and select one to drop it into the workout.

The library is empty until you save a section to it (see "Manage a section" below).

Manage a section

Each section header has a three-dot () menu with these options:

  • Edit Section — opens the Update section modal where you can change the name, type, or format.
  • Duplicate — creates a copy of the section.
  • Save to Library — saves the section so you can reuse it in other workouts via the From library tab.
  • Remove — deletes the section.

To collapse a section on the canvas, click the chevron on the section header. Collapsing hides the exercises but keeps them in the workout.

Reorder sections

Reorder sections from the Arrangement panel on the right side of the builder. Each section appears as a card with a drag handle — drag the handle to move the section up or down. Reordering is drag-only; there is no move-up or move-down option in the section's three-dot menu.

Move an exercise into a different section

  1. Click the three-dot () menu on the exercise card.
  2. Click Move into Section.
  3. In the Move exercise dialog, pick the destination under Into this section.
  4. Click Move Exercise.

The exercise's current section is not shown in the list — only other sections in the workout appear as options.

Add an instruction or exercise inside a section

  • Click + Add instruction to drop a text instruction above the exercises in that section.
  • Click Add Exercise to add an exercise to the section.

What clients see

When a workout has multiple sections, the client sees each section as a header (section name plus the number of exercises) followed by the exercises in that section listed sequentially. Superset groups inside a section show a Superset tag above the paired exercises.

Things to watch out for

  • Section type is just a label. Workout, Warm up, Cool down, and Recovery all behave the same — the format (Regular or Interval) is what controls whether exercises use Reps or Time.
  • Regular vs Interval changes the exercise fields. Regular sections use a Reps field; Interval sections use a Time field and show a Duration counter on the section header.
  • Pressing Escape closes the workout builder without saving. Use the Cancel button or the × icon to close modals instead.
  • Reordering happens in the Arrangement panel only — drag the handle on the right-side panel; there is no up/down button on the section's three-dot menu.
  • The Move into Section dialog hides the current section so you can only choose another section as the destination.
